Realizing you self-worth has nothing to do with checking your account balance, it’s all about you, the person you really are in life. We are fond of giving others their respect, love and consideration, but how often do we take time to give ourselves some credits and deserved praises. How you value yourself is based on the level of self esteem you have.

Healthy self esteem leads to independence, happiness, flexibility and the ability to easily adapt to changes and a positive outlook to everything. Unhealthy or low self esteem Leads to Irrational thoughts, unhappiness, fear of the new, defensiveness and a negative outlook on life.

How we see ourselves has a lot to do with how others see us. When we smile and full of confidence, others see us as someone they want to be around. If we respect and portray it then others will respect us too. How can you ask for respect from others when you don’t even respect yourself?


When you have high self-esteem, you are:

a) Secure about who you are and have confidence in your abilities.
b) You allow yourself to show your true feelings to others/
c) You don’t have intimacy problems in relationships.
d) You are able to recognize and take pride in yourself for your achievements in life.
e) You are easily able to forgive yourself for mistakes and also forgive others.

Similarly, you have problems with low self esteem whe you see the following in yourself:

a) You lack believe in yourself and very insecure.
b) You have problems showing and accepting intimacy in relationships.
c) You never let your true feelings show.
d) You never recognize and give yourself credit for your achievements.
e) You have inability to forgive yourself or others.
f) You resist change at every opportunity.


Here are some tips for developing and building your self-worh.

*Learn not to take other people’s criticism to heart, instead listen to what thay are saying and learn from it.

*Take some time out for yourself everyday to read, meditate, lookk inside yourself and imagine changing your bad habits to ggod ones.

*Celebrate and pride yourself on even the smallest achievements that you accomplish.

  • Do something everyday that you enjoy.
  • Talk positively to yourself, repeat affirmations to chase away all the negative thougts and feelings.
